The Perfect Insider anime key visual with Saikawa and Moe, now streaming in India on Crunchyroll

The Perfect Insider is available on Crunchyroll in India, with Japanese audio and English subtitles. No Indian-language dub has been announced. The mystery anime centres on two murders at an isolated research facility, and the circumstances around a brilliant programmer make the case a hard one to crack.

What the story is about

Sōhei Saikawa, an associate professor of architectural engineering, travels to a remote island with Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentor. Their visit brings them to the Magata Research Institute, where a prominent artificial intelligence researcher and the lab's director have been murdered. The pair set about working out how the killings happened and what secrets the facility might be hiding.

Moe is observant and sharp, while Saikawa comes at problems through careful analysis. Their investigation pulls them deeper into the life of Shiki Magata, a gifted programmer who has spent years isolated at the institute. The island setting and the small circle of people tied to the lab give the mystery a closed-in feel, with the two investigators left to piece the truth together from the evidence in front of them.

From novel to screen

The anime adapts the 1996 mystery novel Subete ga F ni Naru by Hiroshi Mori. The novel was the first entry in his S&M series, which follows Saikawa and Moe through different mysteries. The story has also had manga adaptations, a visual novel and a live-action television drama.

A-1 Pictures produced the 11-episode anime, which aired from October to December 2015. Mamoru Kanbe directed the series, Toshiya Ōno wrote the scripts and Kenji Kawai composed the music. Yasuyuki Kase voices Saikawa, and Atsumi Tanezaki plays Moe.
